In order to perpetuate Edward Johnson's work and support for young musicians and music teachers in the Guelph region, a group of his friends established "The Edward Johnson Music Foundation" in 1957. It raised funds to support musical groups in Guelph and then in 1968 launched "The Guelph Spring Festival". Edward Johnson, tenor and administrator, was born in Guelph, ON, 22 Aug. 1878. He sang in Europe (as "Edoardo di Giovanni") from 1912-1919, and in North America from 1919-1935. Aaron Copland (1900-1990) was an American composer. During the years 1964 and 1965 Copland wrote, conducted, narrated, and hosted a series of twelve television programs entitled Music in the 20s = Music in the Twenties.
